What is Sandeaters? How Do I Join? How Do I Get On The E-Mail List?
Sandeaters on Scubaboard Information How do I Join Sandeaters on Scubaboard? How to I Reply I am Coming to A Dive?

What is Sandeaters?   The Sand Eaters is little more than a scheduling organization. Its sole purpose is to schedule a Sunday morning beach dive and notify those who have requested to be on the list.  At Sandeaters.org website you will find a calendar of scheduled dives, descriptions of SCUBA Diving sites in the Los Angeles and Orange County Areas including limited sites in Ventura and San Diego Counties and more.

How To Join* Sandeaters, here is what you need to do, absolutely nothing we are not a club. No dues, no officers, just divers enjoying beach diving.  You may however elect to join* the mailing list.

How Do I join the mailing list?   To be on the Sandeaters mailing list and receive notices of upcoming dives and request from other divers for dive partners to dive off calendar events, just click here: Add Yourself to Our Weekly E-mail List. Please note spamming or commercial use of the list is prohibited.

The Scubaboard Connection: www.scubaboard.com has graciously agreed to host a sub-forum for Sandeaters.org with an interactive calendar that you may use to indicate your plans to attend a particular scheduled dive.  Sandeaters is not affiliated with Scubaboard.  Scubaboard provides the hosting service for Sandeaters as a public service to the diving community and Sandeaters. Scubaboard by the way is an excellent international forum for discussing any topic related to scuba, with sub-forums on just about anything related to diving. Scubaboard also does an excellent job of policing the forum against abuse by spammers and spambots.

Why did Sandeaters opt to have a forum on Scubaboard? Well we felt the interactive calendar where you could respond with just a click of the mouse that you planned to attend a dive and everyone else could see if anyone was planning to come was a benefit to all and would eventually eliminate the requirement for someone in the group to receive a bunch of e-mails from Sandeaters and then sending out another e-mail to the group that other divers were in fact planning to come or not. The ability to cancel your planned attendance was also a nice feature. The private members* only forum area is also nice and allows us to conduct business related to Sandeaters Since we are really not a club, but a collection of divers, some of whom volunteer to do webmastering and e-mail list management, it also provides a place to ask questions and develop a consensus of what the group in general wants to do.  The ability to conduct polls facilitates that type of interaction.

To join* the Sandeaters Forum on Scubaboard follow these 3 simple steps.

1. Go to www.scubaboard.com to register. We also recommend you fill out your profile so others will know what city you are in and you just might find a local dive buddy.

2. After registration go to Scubaboard Forums and look for  UserCP located on the blue bar at the top of the screen . The UserCP is your command post where you can customize your Scubaboard experience.  Scroll down to MISCELLANEOUS and click on Groups and then scroll down to SANDEATERS and click on the button to join.  Membership* in Sandeaters Forum on Scubaboard will be approved, usually within 24 hours.  Alternate method is to go to the SoCal Forum on Scubaboard and click on Sandeaters there. Or you can click on this link: http://www.scubaboard.com/profile.php?do=editusergroups (user CP /misc/memberships )

3. Now you are a member* of Sandeaters Scubaboard Forum and can visit the interactive calendar located in the Travel and Clubs Section under North America/United States/ California Kelp Divers/SoCal/Sandeaters  Calendar section   http://www.scubaboard.com/calendar.php?c=36

Planning on attending a SANDEATERS dive?  Let us know by clicking on the dive calendar and then click on  "I will be attending this event with ____ guest" to add your name to the list.  Plans change?  No problem, just do the same procedure to remove your name from the list of attendees. Alternate method if you elect not to participate in Scubaboard is to reply to the reminder notice sent out to the e-mail list.  Please note that as the Scubaboard calendar is new, it does not necessarily reflect all divers who are planning to attend a dive - yet.
